MEET JOHNÂ LIVINGSTON MCBRIDE
ABOUT ME
Welcome! I am an Aerospace Engineering major at the University of Notre Dame. I love building things, and I love things that fly. I am heavily involved in extracurricular engineering design teams here at school, which I believe is a testament to my passion for my studies. This website is intended to display some of these teams as well as some of my other work. I hope you enjoy!
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
GE AVIATION
July 2020 - August 2020
I had the unique opportunity of participating in the first ever "GE Intern Academy." Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my internship was moved to a remote role over a shortened period of time. I listened to talks from leaders within the business about various topics. These talks included topics such as engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and GE's additive business. During the last of our four weeks, I worked on an NPI (New Product Introduction) simulation, where a group of fellow interns and I went through the full process of introducing a new jet engine into the market. We faced critical decisions which needed to be made on minimal information. The wonderful folks at GE certainly kept us on our toes that week! I am incredibly grateful that GE Aviation honored their internship program despite the tough times for the aviation industry.
GE AVIATION
May 2019 - August 2019
During this summer internship role, I worked to support the Commercial Spares Customer Account Management Team. My main role was in root cause analysis for delinquent order shipments to customers. I worked closely with my manager to apply Six Sigma strategies to the data we had available to us. Here I learned something very important about data: it has a story to tell. I gained great experience in finding the story hidden within our data. I created dashboards which update daily and are used by both my former team as well as the warehouse management team.

In addition to my main role, I reorganized and redesigned the internal team website to facilitate easier navigation and reduce wasted time. I learned a great deal during this role, and I owe it to being a part of a great team and having an amazing manager.
FINEST FLOWERS, INC,
March 2020 - August 2020
This is my family's small business. My dad owns and operates three flower shops, and my siblings and I have been working there for as long as we can remember. Most recently, however, the pandemic took its toll on the business. All of my dad's employees went on unemployment, and my family went into survival mode. During my transition to virtual schooling, I was working most days, doing whatever needed to be done. I would deliver, take out the trash, and clean flowers. When Mothers' day came (one of our busiest holidays), and it was time for employees to come back, I managed our operations, making sure we keep both the workers and customers safe. I also routed over 300 deliveries per day, making sure that drivers went out on efficient routes.

While this may not be engineering work per se, I believe that it touches upon who I am. When something needs to be done, I commit myself to doing it, and I follow through.
EDUCATION
August 2018Â - May 2022
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AEROSPACE ENGINEERING, UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME
September 2014 - June 2018
CHAMINADE HIGH SCHOOL
SKILLS
SOLIDWORKS
I have used SolidWorks for over two years now, mostly for classes and extracurriculars. I have experience in motion analysis, CAM, and optimization
MATLAB
My skills in Matlab span a wide variety of applications. These include data analysis, Graphical User Interfaces (GUI), numerical solutions calculation, a battleship game, and more.
PYTHON
I thought myself Python in order to learn how to work with a Raspberry Pi, in the hopes of doing some robotics projects soon.
FUSION 360
I taught myself how to use this program for my engineering design teams. I have used it for about a year now, and it is ideal for teamwork.
MACHINING AND FABRICATION
I have worked with manual mills, manual lathes, CNC routers, 3D printers, laser cutters, drill presses, a CNC Mill (soon, hopefully), and more
AND MORE!
I am experienced in other applications as well. These include Fortran and Python (still learning)
